GENERAL INFORMATION PERTAINING TO ALL SHOWS & EVENTS

  • Animals are NOT permitted in restaurants or food establishments currently serving food. A school cafeteria NOT currently serving food is acceptable. Please set up The Creature Teacher area farthest away from workers preparing for lunch.
  • The Creature Teacher reserves the right to make animal substitutions when deemed necessary (i.e. illness, injury, shedding cycle, hibernation)
  • Payment is required ahead of show date. Please see Pricing Link below for more details on payment and cancellation policy.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES & SMALL GROUP PROGRAMS

Preparing for the Show

  • Please start your party at least 30 minutes  prior to our agreed upon designated show start time. This ensures that we will not have interruptions from "latecomers" and I won't be late to the show scheduled after yours.
  • Shows must be held indoors during the following months due to inclement weather: January, February, July, August, December. Shows be held outdoors during the remaining months provided weather is not below 65 degrees or over 85 degrees and there is complete shade for animals and people. If planning an outdoor party, please have an indoor, temperature controlled alternative site in the event of rain or bad weather. Open sided tents are not recommended as they only provide shade when the sun is directly overhead.
  • If you are planning an outdoor show, please prepare an climate controlled indoor alternate facility in case of inclement weather (over 85 degrees or under 65 degrees)
  • A stair free, ground floor level in needed. If a backdoor or garage enterance works best please notify The Creature Teacher prior to show time and specify closest parking location.
  • Please confine all personal pets to another area in the house or outside so they do not disturb scare or badger The Creature Teacher's critters.
  • Please plan on having The Creature Teacher show away from any bounces houses (or unplug them) as they are noisy and distracting to everyone.

The Show Itself

  • Please put nametags on all the children when possible so I may address them by their name.
  • Size Limits: age 3yr old to 5 yrs old: 15 children or less. Age 6 yrs and older: 20 children or less
  • Please form a "horsehoe" or semi-circle shape for the children to sit in, with the middle of the "horseshoe" empty (free of coffee tables, games, etc.)  The Creature Teacher and wagon will be placed in the open end of the horseshoe.
  • Ideas for creating the "horseshoe": haybales, bench seats, pictures of animals taped to floor, chalk outline of garage or cement floor, masking tape on carpet floor, carpet squares, chairs, blanket or quilt large enough for children to sit on outer edges.
  • Children may pet with one finger on the animals back and tail. Please notify your adult guest with infants or toddlers that children must be 3 yrs of age or older in order to pet the animals.
  • Children must be 3 yrs of age and older in order to pet the animals. Infants and toddlers may NOT pet the animals for the health and safety of the animals and the children. Please inform your adult guests with children under 3 yrls of age of this rule. Thank you.
  • Children should remain quiet and sitting down through out the show. Loud and shrill noises and fast, sudden movements can scare the animals.
  • Children should not have anything in their hands (i.e. toys, food or drink etc.) and The Creature Teacher will provide hand sanitizer so children may wash their hands after the show.

Having more than 20 kids at your party? We can accommodate larger party groups however they work a bit differently. In order to keep all children calm and control noise level for the animals here are your three choices for an over 20 person party:

  • only the birthday child will pet all of the animals
  • all children may pet ONE animal at the end of the show
  • purchase two shows of equal length and divide each show into equal numbers of children (i.e. twenty kids per show, however, the group of children waiting for their show time should have another activity located away from the show area)

ASSEMBLY-STYLE PROGRAMS

Preparing for the Show

  • The Creature Teacher will arrive 20 to 30 minutes prior to show time for set up. Table space about 10 feet long will be needed.
  • If you can reserve a parking spot near the entrance or door you wish for me to use would be greatly appreciated. Entrances without stairs or the least amount of stairs is preferred.
  • Stages are not necessary or preferred but we can use a stage if you would like or need to for space or logistics reasons.
  • If possible please allow The Creature Teacher to set up the show tables before allowing the audience to sit down. The show has a greater impact when the animals are a surprise.
  • Please allow several feet of open space between the tables and the audience for The Creature Teacher. (A masking tape line works great!) Then you may begin seating your audience in single file rows in front and back of one another as needed.
  • If you have a large audience of several hundrend, please allow ample time to show your audience when to sit and get settled in so we may start the show as scheduled.
  • A great set up for audiences with parents and children is to have the children sit on the floor directly in front of The Creature Teacher and have parents sit in chairs on the outside of where the children are sitting.
  • If a microphone is needed due to the large size of your audience and you do not have a microphone (hands free preferred) please let us know prior to the show and we will bring our own.

The Show Itself

  • Children must remain sitting down and quiet during the show.
  • At least one adult should be present to assist with crowd control and discipline during disruptions if and when needed
  • After the last animal has been discussed, your audience will be allowed to touch one animal as they exit your gymnasium, room, library or facility.  Parents will be encouraged to line up with their children for safety reasons.
  • Children may pet with one finger and hand sanitizer will be given out to all audience members after touching.
  • Children must be 3 yrs of age or older in order to touch the animals.
  • Flash photography is permitted during the show.

TOUCH TABLE EVENTS

Preparing for the Touch Table Event

  • Please reserve a parking space close to the set up area so we can set up in a timely manner.
  •  Rectangular table space of at least 16 feet will be needed.
  • Place the tables up against a wall leaving a few feet in between for The Creature Teacher or set up in a manner that guests only have access to ONE side of the table.
  • The Creature Teacher will need a quiet spot away from foot traffic to set up before the event. (In a gymnasium or seperate room away from other current activites.
  • Food and Drink are NOT permitted at the tables so please provide a trash can at the starting end of the line.
  • Line formation is extremely important. We will bring signs to indicate the beginning at end of the line. If you have stanchions or the ability to rope off an entrance and exit, this is extremely helpful.
  • If bounces houses or other extremely noisy or action related activities will also be exhibiting at your event, please place The Creature Teacher tables as far away as possible from these booths.
  • Touch Tables must be indoors during the following months due to inclement weather: January, February, July, August, December. During the remains months indoor accommodations are preferred as this eliminates surprises from inclement weather, wind or non-related outdoor noises (dogs barking, lawn mowers, load traffic, etc.) . If your event is taking place outside, The Creature Teacher Touch Tables MUST have complete shade. (Large shade trees and 3 sided tents are acceptable) Tents without sides do not provide shade at all hours of the day which does not make them an ideal situation for this type of event.

The Touch Table Event Itself

  • All guests may go through the line as many times as they prefer.
  • Up to 15 animals will be on display. A few for display only and approximately 6 animals available for gently touching. All animals will be selected by The Creature Teacher.
  • Children and parents will be asked to use hand sanitizer at the beginning and end of the touch portion. Animals may not be picked up but may be gently touched. Individuals not be kind will be asked to leave the line and not return.
  • Children touching the animals must be 3 years of age and older.
  • Food and drink are not permitted around the animals.
