MERIT BADGE PROGRAMS
For "non-merit badge" presentations for boy scouts and
girl scouts, you may choose from any of our 10 unique and amazing presentations including Creatures

The Creature Teacher is a recognized merit badge counselor with the Boy Scouts
of America and has developed two programs to assist boy scouts in obtaining animal related merit badges. The show is between
60 to 90 minutes long, includes a 25 page workbook for each child to be completely during the show, we can accommodate up
to 35 scouts (adults not included) and the opportunity to see and touch a variety of live animals. You may choose
to complete the merit badge requirements in one session on one day or divide the sessions into two separate sessions
on two different days.
The Creature Teacher is a recognized merit badge counselor with the following councils: Longhorn
Council, East Texas Council and Circle 10 Council. If you council is not
listed here, please contact us with information about how to join your specific council.
REPTILE & AMPHIBIAN STUDY
This show is $275 and will include the following live animals: Leopard Frog, American Toad, African Bullfrog, Sinoloan Milk Snake, Corn Snake, Barred Tiger Salamander, Blue-Tongued Skink, Leopard Gecko. (The Creature Teacher reserves the right to make animal substitutions when necessary due to illness, injury, hibernation, etc.) We will cover these of the classroom requirements including: 3. Describe the differences between: a. Amphibians and Reptiles, b. alligators and crocodiles, c. toads and frogs, d. salamanders and lizards & e. snakes and lizards 5. Describe how reptiles and amphibians reproduce. 6. From observation, describe how snakes move forward. Describe the functions of the muscles, ribs and belly plates. 7. Describe in detail six venomous snakes and the one venomous lizard found in the United States. Describe their habitat and geographic range. Tell what you should do in case of a bite by a venomous species. 10. Tell five superstitions or false beliefs about reptiles and amphibians and give a correct explanation for each. Give seven examples of unusual behavior or other true facts about reptiles and amphibians. Troop scoutmasters will be responsible for covering requirements 1, 2, 4, 8 and 9 with their scouts. INSECT STUDY
This show is $275 and will include the following live animals: Vietnamese Walking Stick Insects, African Millipedes, Madagascar Hissing Cockroach, Rose-Haired Tarantula, Goliath Hornworm Caterpillar, Purple-Pincher Hermit Crabs. (The Creature Teacher reserves the right to make animal substitutions when necessary due to illness, injury, hibernation, etc.) We will cover these of the classroom requirements including: 1. Tell how insects are different from all other animals. Show how insects are different from centipedes and spiders. 2. Point out and name the main parts of an insect. 3. Describe the characteristics that distinguish the principal families and ordes of insects. 5. a. Identify three species of insects that are helpful to humans and five species of insects that are harmfu to humans. b. Describe some general methods of insect control. (You must do the scrapbook collection. We have worksheets to support these requirements.) 6. Compare the life histories of a butterfly and a grasshopper. Tell how they are different. 9. Tell the things that make social insects different from solitary insects. 10. Tell how insects fit in the food chains of other insects, fish, birds and mammals 11. Find out about three career opportunities in insect study. (We have a list of careers in entomology and worksheets to write about three careers after you've finished your research.) Troop scoutmasters will be responsible for covering all or part of the requirements for 4, 5, 7, 8 and 11 with their scouts.
