Discover the senses of animals--they use the same 5 senses we do plus more.  You pick the animals from our 30+ menagerie and we'll tell you how good or poor their senses are and even compare some of them to humans. We'll even tell you if they "sink or swim". Senses discuss are:

  • Vision- How many eyes do spiders have and can they see well? How many eyes do insects have?
  • Hearing- What happens if you scream at a sleeping chameleon? What animals' ears are connected to its lungs?
  • Touch-Why do crabs have small hairs on their legs?
  • Smell-Did you know some animals smell with their tongues, legs and abdomens?
  • Balance- What do animals use to help them balance in trees or after jumping a far distance?
  • Speed- Do you know how many miles per hour the fastest snake can move? How long does it take a tortoise to walk one mile?
  • Taste- Did you know snakes do not have any taste buds? And what animal has 17,000 taste buds?

Terminologies covered: pedipalps, compound eyes, prehensile, Jacobson Organ, patagium, chelicera
