Tortoise (sulcata)

Great for all ages, but very large and heavy. 

The sulcata tortoise, also called the African spurred tortoise, is a giant species. .  This is the largest mainland tortoise with males reaching up to 200 pounds. They love to eat watermelon, apples, strawberries, and greens.  

Native to the Sahara Desert, they use their strong legs to “scoop” sand to make tunnels under the desert floor in order to keep warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

*Fun fact: they can go up to two months without drinking water.
