Whip Scorpions

Whip Scorpions

Whip Scorpions

Great for all ages

The vinegaroon, or whip scorpion, is a harmless arachnid that is technically a scorpion, but has no venom.  Instead, they have a long whip-like tail that they can spray a vinegar-type acid from to deter predators. These strange looking bugs do have pinchers to grab their prey.

They are native to the southern US and Mexico. They love the hot dry climate.

*Fun fact: Big Bend National Park recently became overrun by these pickle smelling visitors. They were referred to as “acid spitting land lobsters” in new articles reporting the infestation.
